Having a zero waste Christmas isn’t just about using less packaging. Yes, gift wrap and all that extra plastic packaging contribute to so much waste. But it’s also about actually USING the products you give or receive. Because a lot of waste is caused by unused gifts being dumped in the bin at some point in time. So I’ve put together this guide for you with plenty of zero waste beauty gifts that are not only kind to the planet. They’re also kind to you and are just as glamorous as any of the mainstream products that aren’t as kind to you, the planet or animals.
So what do I mean by zero waste beauty gifts?
Well, as I mentioned, it’s not just about packaging. Although that is, of course, an important factor.
Now I know you’ve probably seen plenty of gorgeous palettes and sets in the stores. The ones that have 8, 10, even 20 eyeshadows or products in them.
But before you buy that big palette or set, stop and ask yourself this.
Do you really NEED 20 different eyeshadow shades?
Are you REALLY going to use ALL of those products? Do you really NEED 20 neutral eyeshadows? Do you even know if all the products and shades in that palette or set are suitable for you or the person you’re buying it for?
This is why I don’t recommend buying large makeup palettes or gift sets.
More often than not, only 2, maybe 3 shades or products from the set will be used. And the rest will just sit there gathering dust in your makeup bag until the day comes to throw them away. Causing even more waste than the packaging they came in!
I talked about why I don’t recommend makeup palettes in this Facebook Live session. So make sure to take a look at it.
You’re not actually getting value for money!
Because if you’re not USING your products, it would’ve been cheaper to just buy the 2 or 3 eyeshadows or products that you actually did use.
So why not give, or receive, gifts this year that you’ll actually USE. Ones that you get so much joy and pleasure from. Because they make you look and feel absolutely fabulous.
And isn’t that why you buy them in the first place?
How to use your Zero Waste Beauty Gifts Guide
I’ve broken this guide into categories. And there’s something in here to suit every skin type and every budget.
All of these gifts are by wonderful brands that only use the best natural and organic ingredients in their products that are kind to you, the planet, and animals.
They’re all packaged in recyclable and sustainable materials. Making them true zero waste beauty gifts. And ensuring minimal waste.
Disclaimer: Some of the products mentioned contain affiliate links which means I may receive a small commission if you decide to purchase them. But this will have no extra cost to you. As you know, I only ever recommend products and brands that I absolutely love and use myself in both my professional and personal makeup kits. So that’s how I know how amazing they are and why I’m so excited to share them with you so you’ll get the same amazing results from using them too.
All of these products are available for worldwide delivery. And there’s free shipping on many of them. Yayyyy for that. 🙂
ZERO WASTE SKINCARE GIFTS
TIP: When buying skincare gifts, I suggest sticking to something more generic that’s suitable for all skin types.
Of course, if you already know the skin type of the person you’re buying the gift for, then, by all means, choose a gift for them that’s specifically for their skin type.
Bodycare products are another great way to do this. They’re a bit lower risk and more likely to be suitable for most skin types. Plus it’s a great way to try out some new products too.
Here are a few ideas to inspire you.
The first of my zero waste beauty gifts are these cute little sets that Pai have released for the Christmas season this year.
They each contain a full size of one of Pai’s signature products, their gorgeous Rosehip Oil. It’s suitable for all skin types, including anyone with skin conditions such as acne or sensitive skin.
There are 4 sets to choose from. And they’ve named each one after the 4 elements (water, earth, fire and air).
I love how small yet practical and
My favourite is the Water Element Gift Set as it contains 2 of my absolute favourite products from Pai Skincare. The aforementioned Rosehip Oil. And my all-time favourite cleanser which is their Camellia & Rose Hydrating Cleanser.
They use fully recyclable boxes to package their products along with EcoFlo chips that are biodegradable. And two-thirds of their product packaging is also recyclable.
There’s so much to love about this wonderful brand and it’s products as they truly are zero waste beauty gifts. Here’s why.
Although these products are suitable for all skin types. This beautiful set is an especially great choice for someone with oily, combination or acne-prone skin.
The set contains their stunningly beautiful (in both how it looks and performs) Harmony Bloom Face Oil. As well as their Harmony Rescue Mask. Or you could also buy each product separately.
The ingredients are so nutritious and good for the skin. As they’re a combination of natural, organic and wildcrafted ingredients.
And Lena Wild is a very eco-conscious brand making these zero waste beauty gifts on several levels.
They use glass bottles instead of plastic. And their boxes and labels are made with 100% cotton paper which is a byproduct of the fashion industry. How amazing is that! In addition, they use local suppliers and distributors when possible to cut down on fuel emissions.
These are 2 of my favourite body products. There’s also a Citrus Blend Duo available too. I talked about how much I love these in my Best Natural & Organic Body Care Products post.
I not only love Evolve’s products. But also how much they do for our beautiful planet too. This includes using only the best natural and organic ingredients, recyclable materials and being as energy efficient as possible in their manufacturing plant. Even their staff canteen uses eco-friendly products.
ZERO WASTE MAKEUP GIFTS
Tip: More is not necessarily more! Opt for palettes with fewer products rather than more. As you’re more likely to actually use all the shades, so will cause less waste. And better value for money too.
As I’ve already mentioned, I’m not a fan of large makeup palettes or sets. So if you’re looking for recommendations for those types of palettes, this post is not for you!
However, I’m still a fan of makeup palettes. But only ones that I know I’ll actually use.
The ones I’ve listed in this category make wonderful zero waste beauty gifts. As they’re practical, multi-use. And just downright gorgeous!
I love this palette. It may only contain 4 products. But you can do a multitude of looks with it. And it’s so practical too. Not to mention absolutely gorgeous!
There are 4 palettes to choose from. So there’s one to suit every skin tone.
Each palette consists of 4 multi-use cream products that can be used on the eyes, lips and cheeks. They can also be used to highlight and contour the face too.
Another reason they make such beautiful zero waste beauty gifts is that the palettes themselves are recyclable and BPA-Free too.
A wonderful brand and a wonderful product. And it’s suitable for vegans too.
The moment I saw this palette, I fell in love with it. For starters, look at how pretty is! But as you know, I’m not a fan of just pretty alone. It has to be pretty AND functional for me to love a palette and to recommend it. One that I’ll actually use!
Well, thankfully this one most definitely ticks all those boxes. Similar to the Nude & Noir palette, the palette contains 4 multi-use products. So you can create so many looks all from one small palette.
What I also love is that this palette comes with their Limitless Lash Mascara. So you’ve got eyeshadows, blusher, highlighter, contour, lip colour AND mascara all in just 5 products.
Ilia is very conscious of its impact on the environment. They use recycled paper printed with vegetable-based dyes as well as aluminium and glass components in their packaging. And you can even reuse the beautiful gift box this comes with to keep things neat and organised in your home.
These are my favourite types of makeup palettes. And the ultimate zero waste beauty gifts.
As you get to pick and choose what shades and products you want to put in them. And you can reuse the palette over and over again.
I love these stunning palettes from Zao Organic Makeup so much! They’re made of eco-friendly bamboo which is a sustainable material.
The palettes are empty, so you can choose what you want to put in them. There’s a small and a large palette. The small one (pictured below) fits 4 eyeshadow refills. Or 2 powder products. But you can mix and match.
The large palette fits 25 eyeshadow refills. Or 9 powder products.
So you could gift this palette along with a couple of products to get started.
Tip: When buying makeup products, neutral shades of eyeshadow are great choices as gifts as they’re suitable for most skin tones and eye colours.
ZERO WASTE HAIRCARE GIFTS
Tabitha James Kraan Organic Haircare
These hair care products are simply amazing! And make for stunningly beautiful and high performing zero waste beauty gifts all year round.
There are a few to choose from. But here are a few that I think would make particularly gorgeous gifts. Choose just one. Or mix and match a couple of them. They’re all suitable for all hair types.
Can we stop for a moment to admire how unbelievably pretty this is!
And it’s not just pretty on the outside. It contains only the highest quality natural and organic ingredients that won’t dry out, damage or destroy your hair like conventional dry shampoo does.
Just pop it in your handbag for on the go. So it’s great for nights out when you’re going straight from the office to the party.
It’s also refillable, as you can get the 75ml version which is enough to refill the compact version 5 times. There’s one available for fair hair and dark hair.
In addition to the dry shampoo, you could also pair it with this exquisite hair oil. It’s perfect for treating dry, split ends. As well as a post-party recovery for your tresses.
It smells, looks and feels divine. You only need a small amount of it. And only apply it from mid-lengths to the end of your hair. It’s suitable for fine hair too. As it doesn’t weigh it down. It just leaves it looking and feeling hydrated and healthy.
Yes, you read that correctly! And this can also double up as a perfume for the entire body. So you’ll smell amazing literally from head to toe!
Again, this is
Alone or together, these make absolutely stunning gifts. And the packaging is completely recyclable.
OTHER ZERO WASTE GIFTS
These aren’t technically beauty products. But a healthy beauty routine always begins with a healthy mindset.
You can use the best, most glamorous products out there. But if you’re speaking about yourself (internally and externally) in a negative way, and using derogatory language towards yourself, those gorgeous products aren’t going to help you too much.
These cute journals are such a fun way to introduce some positivity into yours, or someone else’s daily routine. Even looking at them makes me feel instantly happier. 🙂
The ultimate Zero Waste Beauty Gift
The best way to reduce waste and to have a zero-waste beauty routine all year round is to actually USE your products.
Because when you only buy products that are actually right for you, not only will you use them. You’ll get so much joy and pleasure from using them too. Which is kind of why you buy them in the first place, right?
And the best way to do this is to educate yourself. Learn what products and shades are right for you. Learn how to apply them. And learn which techniques are going to enhance your natural beauty.
This is the key to less waste.
So if you’re ready to stop wasting time on watching endless videos and trying to piece together every blog post under the sun to try to find the information you actually need. And that’s applicable to you.
If you’re ready to stop wasting money on the wrong products. The ones that don’t work for you because they’re not suitable for you.
And if you’re ready to stop having tons of products sitting in your makeup bag or bathroom cabinet that you never use. Then I’d love to help you, or someone you know, do just that.
The gift of education
My makeup masterclasses and personalised makeup lessons will help you do just that. They’ll teach you all you need to know about choosing and applying beauty products.
So you can finally stop wasting money on the wrong products. And you can finally learn how to apply your products using techniques that right for your face shape and your eye shape.
Vouchers don’t always have to be boring!
And neither is learning and education. In fact, these are the really fun type of lessons!
If you’re buying this as a gift for someone else, I can provide you with a gift voucher to send to them. Or perhaps they might prefer to learn just one new thing at a time. In which case, my masterclasses are perfect for them. As they can learn at their own pace.
And I can also provide you with a gift voucher for these too. Just reach out to me here and let me know this is a gift for someone else and I’ll get everything set up for you.
